“I wanted a fire-and-forget method for handling releases in all my repos.
Frankly, RollingVersions has semantic-release and other alternative workflows totally beat.
Hands down the best solution in terms of ease-of-use.”

“RollingVersions is the ‘KISS’ way of doing changelogs.
Devs fill in a structured form within the pull request.
QA knows exactly what to test in the next release candidate.
PMs and Customer Success know what has been shipped, especially if they use the Slack integration.
As an engineering manager, it's a total game-changer!”

When you’re ready to create PRs (and only then), you’re prompted to share what’s new — say goodbye to unclear commit messages and “I forgot to document that” confusions.
We integrate directly with your GitHub workflow, automatically capturing the context and ensuring every change is tracked correctly.
No need to remember commands, formatting or anything technical — just enter your updates in the easy-to-use interface.
We handle the semantic versioning (SemVer) with structured changelogs, making sure nothing gets lost.
Review the proposed release and automate the rest — every release is tested and published seamlessly.
We integrate with your CI/CD pipeline, ensuring that every release is verified against your tests before it goes live, minimizing the risk of errors.
The changelog is added to your software release timeline — your future self, team and users know exactly what’s new.
Every update is automatically reflected in your GitHub releases and package versions, keeping everything synchronized across all your production environments.
RollingVersions was born out of a developer’s frustration with manual releases. Co-founder Forbes Lindesay, a senior engineer and open source enthusiast (a regular contributor to over 700 open source projects), tried countless tools for automating the release process — but he always found that they all require a lot of hacks and training.
In 2020, due to the clumsy traditional manual release process, Forbes made a few fatal mistakes when updating a widely-used open-source project - breaking the code for thousands of projects, some used by Fortune 500 companies, including React Native (read the original post-mortem story here). Out of those learnings, RollingVersions was born.
After the MVP was released, it started being widely adopted by open source projects and commercial companies. Although we built it for ourselves, we feel other teams should benefit from the same improvements to their workflow that we have - so we are now working to turn RollingVersions into a product that is available for everyone.
